This manual will give a short overview about setting up an email account with Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7. It should work for other Mozilla Thunderbird version also.
First of all open the menu entry "Account Settings from the "Edit" menu (Linux) or the "Tools"menu (Windows).
Now press the "Add Account" button on the lower left side. As we want to add an "Email Account" you can leave everything unchanged here.
The next step is to enter your personal data, i.e. your name and your email address. Your email address normally consists of >Firstname<.>Lastname<@asamnet.de. You will find this information in the data you got from ASAMnet.
The next step is to enter the information about the server we want to collect the emails from. As we are creating a POP3 account you can leave the options field on the top unchanged. Just enter for both "Incoming Server" as well as "Outgoing Server" mail.asamnet.de.
The next step is to enter the "User Name" for both the SMTP (outgoing email) as well as the POP3 (incoming email) server. Just enter >Your Account< which you got from ASAMnet here.
The next step is to give our newly created account a name. This name can be used to refer to this specific account later on.
In order to use secure communication channels betwenn your email client and the ASAMnet server we have to do two more setting. First of all click on the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" entry inside the list on the upper left side. Afterwards select the "TLS, is available" option on the right side
After having secured the connection when sending email we have to do the same for retrieving email. Therefore select the "Server Settings" entry of your newley created account inside the list on the upper left side. The only change that has to be done is to enable the checkbox "Use secure connection (SSL)" on the right side.
Now we close the "Account Settings" dialoge with the "OK" button and we are done.
